Travel Information for International Attendees

Tirana is the capital city of Albania. Located 30 km east of the Adriatic Sea and only minutes from Tirana International Airport, Tirana is a dynamic and vibrant metropolis where one can find a bit of everything.  Being the economic, social and cultural epicenter of modern Albania, Tirana offers various accommodation, recreation and heritage sites. International airports are operating in Albania, located north of Albania, ‘’Kukës International Airport Zayed-North Wings’’: approximately 3 hours from Tirana. The other airport is in Tirana, ‘’Tirana International Airport’’ approximately 30 minutes far by car from the city center. Please check the respective website to get the necessary information about the leading flying companies carrying their activities in Albania.

*To arrange your transport to and from the airport, two options are available:

  • You can use the Airport Shuttle Bus, which leaves on the hour from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm from the airport and the city center and costs 250 Albanian Lek one way (about $2.5).
  • You can hire a taxi. All taxis charge a fixed rate of 2,000 Albanian Lek (about $20) between the airport and any destination in the city center and are very safe to use.
  • Taxis charge fixed rates of $4-6 for travel within Tirana.

You are going to receive a customized letter of invitation once your registration is confirmed. Albania generally exhibits a spirit of cooperation with the vast majority of countries. This attitude is mainly dedicated to the fact that Albania has been the only European country that was, for a long time, isolated from the international community until fall of communism in 1991. Albanians know first-hand what it means to be excluded from international collaborations. Hence, every democratically elected Albanian government throughout the years has undertaken actions towards further facilitating border crossing to Albania for foreign visitors. Social Activities

The REST-22 conference proceedings will last from 28-29th July in Tirana. Tirana, capital of Albania is a city full of life and friendly faces. Throughout the years, it has become famous for five features:
